Complete

The Collector animated short is now online over at Approaching Storm Films and on their YouTube channel. If you're one of the ones who've been waiting patiently for the film to be finished now you can watch it, if you've just found this blog or just been told about it go check it out. this project has taken over 3 years to complete. It started out as a university based project and turned into a labour of love for director/producer John-Lynton Bryan.

"The Collector started out as a university based project that i was unfortunately unable to finish simply because of the sheer amount of work that needed to go into it to get it finished. After i had finished my degree in animation i tried to get it finished as soon as i could, but that turned out to be another 2 years and 4 months later. It's not easy to be working and have an unfinished project sitting on the side screaming out to be finished.

There comes a time however that every project needs to be laid to rest and the finished piece is exactly that. There are some pieces i would have liked to have seen tidied up, but the resources and capital to see this done were unfortunately not available. I'm not disappointed with the project, quite the contrary, but if the chance comes up in the future i would like to have it polished up for good.

I hope that those that watch it find it as enjoyable to watch as it was to make."

-John-Lynton Bryan-

John-Lynton is now planing out the next in the series to the "Swynshire" stories which follows on from the collector with a host of new characters and will develop the fantasy world further. for more information you can visit the Approaching Storm Films website where you can also find links to their Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, and Blogger accounts.

Approaching Storm Films also has several other projects in the pipeline which will be announced in early 2012 so keep an eye out for updates from this new independent web based media company.

The Collector - update - Wednesday 5th october 2011

The Collector has been a long time coming with a lot of pitfalls and obstacles in the way. We are hoping that the worst obstructions are out of the way now and final compositing should be completed by the middle of next week. We are aware that there are many times that this has been said, but we have assurances that this will be the case. Once we have the final HD files in our hands we will be putting together the final edit of the film, and once it is all complete we will be looking to upload it to the Approaching Storm Films website for all to see in it's entirity.

For those of you who have been waiting a long time for this to be complete we can only appologise for it's delay, but it has been something out of our control. We can assure you though that we are just as excited about the prospect of having this project come to a close.

Completion and new news

We're aware that it has been a long time since our last post, wow April in fact, but as with everything in life things never turn out how you plan. The Collector is a project that has not taken president over paid work unfortunately as it was a University project that needed completion. Since then a lot has happened and we now look forward to it hopefully being completed by the end of January 2011. This is a rough deadline as with this project it has been abundantly clear that obstacles always get in the way. We are looking forward to having two talented people by the names of Kath Kelleher and Jeb Hawkins who will be finishing off the audio for the short, and the final effects are waiting to be picked up. Once the edit has been finished Kath and Jeb can work their magic and it will all be finished.

In other news, The Collector is now going to have a second instalment produced in 2011. The story has already been outlined and a crew of talented animators and model makers are biting at the bit to get it moving forward after seeing the unfinished version of the first short. The new short will see Thomas Williams once again pitting his wits against a demonic adversary but in a way that you will not have thought possible. We aim to explore the character of Thomas more and give you an insight into the county of Swynshire that he lives in, and we'll keep you posted as to when deadlines have been set as well as the progress of the production.
As The Collector is a privately funded sort film we will be looking for donations to help us produce the second short. The second short, let’s call it ‘Harping Around’ for now, will not be going to festivals afterwards but will be hosted on the website for all to see once it is completed. We will update the site with the ability for you to donate to Harping Around if you so wish to and we hope to have more frequent updates as we go into the New Year so keep checking back for more information, or RSS this blog.

For now that’s it. Hope everyone has a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Delayed completion date

The original completion date had been set to the end of March 2010, then after this it had been set to April 18th 2010. Though we are hoping that we can still hit this target date there have been technical difficulties that may result in it being put back a couple of weeks. this has been unavoidable and we are working as hard as we can to get the film completed.

Thanks for your patience!

State of the film

The film is coming towards the end now. The last bits of compositing are being done and then all thats left is the cleaning up of the sound and a few minor CG effects to be added. If you've been following the progress of the collector on other blogs you may be wondering why there is another one up and running. It's simple... There is now the new website "thecollector-animatedshort.com" which is now up and running. Though the old posts on the production blog are still up and running we though it best to seperate the two from this point forward. In a nutshell if there is any news about the film this is the blog to come to first.
